Welcome to

K r a a i n e s

Kraaines (Crow’s Nest) is about connections. But meaningful ones. This place is not about fast-paced, connected, Instafame living. No, it’s about sea air, uncluttered, free-breathing, nap-taking, beach-walking time. Boggomsbaai hosts this place of sanctuary, where blue tones set upon clean lines and thoughtful design allow one to just be. So, come find and be yourself at Kraaines, and bring those to whom you are connected to with you.

About Us

Who we are

When designing the house, the intention was to create a space that allows one to recentre. Uncomplicated and clean living spaces help one breathe a little easier. All three bedrooms are sea-facing with the focal point of the house being the living area. It is here where everything is just right for one to reconnect. Kraaines is self-catering, and is fully equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and amenities. It has been done this way so that everything is pleasant and good. One can rather spend time absorbing the heart of Boggomsbaai - uncomplicated, beautiful and humble.

Let us focus on the living room. The built-in braai can double as a fire place for cold winters with a sea view. Enamel potjies beg to be used and enjoyed either inside or on the veranda. The kitchen island (stocked with only the best appliances, cutlery and crockery) and eight-seater dining table allow for ample quality time. There are no walls here, and open-plan living is the order of the day.

Boggomsbaai is known for its mild climate and (mostly) windless days, so naturally a spacious braai area with luxurious seating is needed to honour those perfect summer nights. The kitchen and dining area open onto this space, leaving one with an unhindered view of the ocean even though one is at the back of the house.

Down time is spent on plush couches and views of Boggomsbaai. Here whales and dolphins are regulars, using the quiet and unpopulated bay as feeding grounds. There is, naturally, a television with an external hard drive loaded with movies and music, should one want to indulge in some digital therapy.

Kraaines provides guests with a courtyard equipped with a shower to wash off the sand and sea after a day spent on the pristine and private beach. A rarity is the sense of security that pervades Boggomsbaai. Secure and rather restricted, Boggomsbaai is reached by one road, and two walkways alone lead onto the beach.

The village itself does not provide much (and we prefer it that way), so it is important to come well-prepared in terms of food should you not want to leave (there is no shop here). But, Mossel Bay and its malls are a mere 25kms away. The area provides hiking trails (the Hunter Gatherer trail starts here) as well as ample angling opportunities.

Boggomsbaai falls in a conservation area, so fauna and flora are abundant and pure. Walks along the beach lead to two bathing areas in the mild ocean - perfect for washing away the cares of the city.

Dining table and décor

As mentioned earlier, the palette of blue hues permeates this home. This was done with the intention of resonating the ocean, but also to imbue calm into every space. One can just imagine the meaningful moments exchanged around this oak table and how splashes of colour provided by children and family will fill not only the house, but one’s heart too.

Lounging in the Lounge

Imagine reclining into these couches whilst watching the fires (yes, you can see both!) blazing and hearing chatter and laughter from the kitchen. Kraaines allows the heart of each family or group visiting it, to become part of its heritage. Thus, décor is tasteful but clean, so that the only thing cluttering the home is memories.

Be still my heart

Unhindered views of the majestic bay are offset by the grey and white front veranda. Sliding doors ensure that no obstructions can spoil the view from indoors, and while standing on the veranda, waves, stars and salt will overpower your anxieties.

Room of Light

Yes, there are blinds and curtains, but light is what moves the soul in this room. It filters through well thought-through windows and down lighters. Another striking aspect is the geometry of the room. Beautiful flooring with sweeping lines lead the eye outside, and everything feels right with the world here.

Frame within a Frame

This is the type of house that is unassuming, but the more you explore, the more you realise how beautifully crafted it is. Frame upon frame encompass the view that inspired Kraaines and its design.

Form/Function

Nothing about Kraaines was left to chance. The well thought-through courtyard and shower allow for the things of beach living. This is a place for gear, rods, sandy feet and towels and a shower to rejuvenate further (if that’s possible) after the day on the beach.

Open Plan, Open Eyes

No moment will be lost if one just looks for it. As the hues of dusk permeate the house, it’s as if the palette of blues has been given new life, and the warmth of the floors envelope one. This will typically be the moment where newly-bathed little feet are playing on the ample floor space and the adults settle in for some “grown-up time”.

We’ve got you covered

Kraaines provides two families with enough room to be. Another example of this is the double garage to keep dad’s pride housed. There is more than enough parking space on the driveway.

Bedroom 1

At Kraaines, one is constantly reminded of the ocean and its beauty. With doors opened wide, all one needs to do is look up. The confines of city living will be cut free here.

Bedroom 3 - Paradise

All it takes is one little mind for this room to be transformed into a fort, a ship or a castle. And when all the adventures are over, there are the latest kiddy movies ready and loaded on the external hard drive to while away the last hour of the day. If the group spending time in this room is a little too old for castles and ships, the arrangement of the beds allows for peaceful and unhindered double bunk sleeping - there is ample space to have your own moment of quiet.

Thoughtful

All three bedrooms are sea-facing here at Kraaines. The meticulous planning of the house ensures that the bathrooms are easily accessible while none of the magnificent view of Boggomsbaai is wasted.

Bathroom 1 - Everything You Need and More

The bathrooms cater for any and everything you would need. Both have showers, and as an added benefit, this one has a bath too (something rarely found at holiday homes). The marble basin tops add a touch of decadence (but not in a pushy way - that would be out of place here).

Bedroom 2 - Down Time

With unwinding and reconnections in mind, the bedrooms ensure that there is no excuse not to read, breathe and relax. With roof fans and comfy bedding, who would not want to kick back here?

Bathroom 2 - Space!

This bathroom just calls for a hot shower to wash away the sand and salt of a day spent at the beach. The oversized shower is a gift for a family where little ones need to be showered all at once so that the adults can unwind. It’s also a treasure where moments of calm under a jet of water can be enjoyed, all alone.

Slow living

The spacious veranda allows for conversations around the fire. Relax with friends and family whilst cooking a “potjie” or relishing in the quiet. No outside lights may be on after 9 at night at Boggomsbaai, so if you can tear your eyes away from the fire, the canvas of stars will be well worth it.

Uncomplicated Beauty

At Kraaines, one is constantly reminded of the ocean and its beauty. With doors opened wide, all one needs to do is look up. The confines of city living will be cut free here.

Now this is living

The kitchen island and dining table provide the perfect entertainment area. Hues of blue pepper the stylish space, reminding one of the ocean outside.

Kitchen appliances and features

Care was taken to provide our guests with a top-quality kitchen. All utensils and appliances are top-notch, and no costs were spared ensuring that luxurious kitchen living is possible.

A gas stove, double fridge and freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and plenty of thoughtful extras make this kitchen state-of-the-art. This may be a self-catering venue, but we’re pretty sure what is conjured up in this kitchen may give some Michelin chefs a run for their money.
